About Royce

Royce Sciortino, MA, LMFT (CA152424)

I love people, and I am always in awe when anyone considers engaging with a therapeutic process. The fact that you’re considering therapy as an option is already your instinct to heal at work.

I'm not a blank-slate therapist who silently nods, and I do not repeat “How do you feel about that?” ad infinitum. I'm interactive. I ask questions, offer perspective, and think out loud with you — while relying on you to find your own answers that fit, because those are the ones that tend to last. Every course of therapy is as particular as the person in it; I do not rely on the same method for each client.

The primary (not solitary) therapeutic lens I think of in session is attachment (how we bond with others, our friends, our loved ones, ourselves, community, society, and the world around us). It reaches deeply into our daily experience, whether seeking relief from trauma, mood disorders, or recovery from substance use disorder. Healing from all of these includes mending attachment patterns in the present tense, which calls for sensitive care and close attention, and requires your autonomy to be centered throughout treatment.

I am skilled at treating complex and acute traumas using EMDR, Exposure Therapy, and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. During or after treatment for trauma, opportunities to address connection and relationship usually arrive. My experience indicates that addressing relationship and connection while building secure attachment provides a solid foundation for healing and growth.

If you are thinking about reaching out, you don’t need to have everything figured out before you arrive. We’ll figure it out and work on it together.
